Iβm sorry the leaves on your beautiful Dracaena tree is browning. π @Bunny413 is right.
π§ Dracaena are very sensitive to the chemicals in tap water. Its not just the chlorine, fluoride, sodium, (which will evaporate if you allow the water to sit in an open container for 24 hours), but tap water may also have a chemical called chloramine, which doesnβt evaporate from the water. These chemicals buildup in the soil and will cause the browning leaves.
β«οΈSo, water your plant with distilled water to remove harmful chemicals in the soil. But, because distilled water is so pure, it lacks the important nutrients your plant gets from its water. So, itβs not recommended to use it every time you water your plant. Use it in moderation or to help purify or refresh the soil.
β«οΈA better solution is to use a product called Stress Coat. It safe for pets and houseplants. It will remove chlorine, chloramines and other chemicals in the tap water. You can find this product in petβs stores or on Amazon.
π§This time of year (fall/winter) when Dracaena go dormant itβs easy to overwater your plant. Its growth has slow down or completely stop and it will require less and less water.
β«οΈSo, to avoid overwatering use your finger to test the moisture in the soil. Only water when the top 1-2 inches of the soil feels dry. So, insert your index finger into the soil, all the way down to the 1st or 2nd knuckle. To avoid under-watering your plant, keep watering it until you see water dripping from its drainage hole. To avoid overwatering, Donβt let your plant sit in the water that came out of the drainage hole.
βοΈ This plant thrives in bright indirect light. If it doesnβt get enough light or if it gets too much direct light, the leaves will brown. Being 10 feet away from the light, is too far.
β«οΈFinally, Dracaena are sensitive to sudden temperature fluctuations. Move it away from the cold drafts or hot air from vents. These appliances will also lower your plantβs humidity, which is another cause for browning leaves.
β«οΈI hope your Lemon Surprise Dracaena will make a speedy recovery.
