For example, are plants like aloe vera, succulents and other plants that prefer a more porous material okay being kept in a nursery pot or is it best to plant them directly into a terracotta planter. The reason why I like keeping them in nursery pots is because I like to bottom water and I feel like I can keep up with the health of the roots.

I prefer plastic nursery pots over pretty much anything else, unless i specifically want the plant in terracotta. I never plant directly in a decorative planter cause the drainage is poor and what if I ever had to break it out of the pot when it needed to be repot. πŸ˜…

I’m liking clear plastic at the moment, especially with expensive plants or plants with fine roots. Makes it easy to determine when to water or check the health. It’s best to seat the clear ones in decorative pots so they dont grow algae.
Oh yea, you can also bottom water terracotta ! I don’t feel worried about the single hole in terracotta cause it dries well.

You can always put the plants where you like; but be mindful it can change how often you water. Some plants I’ll add additional holes in the bottom and sides of the plastic pots with a soldering iron to increase the airflow.
@Alinaa thank you, thank you! Where do you get clear plastic nursery pots from. All I can ever find are the black ones.
nursery pot and then, in a decorative planter
Just Amazon. These ones https://amzn.to/3OeddDr or https://amzn.to/3YcoR6x. They’re both the thick heavy duty type. If you like the thin and flexible ones like the standard nursery pots, just search for clear ones, there’s a bunch.
Both. But I’m coming around to the nursery pot in a decorative pot idea. Easier to switch pots, check on roots and soil. I used to get cache pots and drill holes in them with a ceramic or Masonary bit. The drawback is they seem to keep in moisture better so you really need to make sure your soil mix is on point or you can get fun stuff like fungus gnats and root rot.
