Yes, the Thuja (Arborvitae) in the image can survive through winter, as it is an evergreen conifer known for its winter hardiness. Thuja varieties, such as Thuja Green Giant and Emerald Green Arborvitae, are generally hardy in USDA zones 3-7, meaning they can tolerate significant cold temperatures.
Factors for Winter Survival:
Hardiness Zone: Ensure the specific Thuja variety is suited for your local USDA hardiness zone.
Container vs. Ground: While Thuja planted in the ground are very resilient, those in containers are more vulnerable to freezing temperatures as their roots are less insulated.
Protection: In colder zones or for container-grown plants, consider providing winter protection such as mulching, wrapping with burlap, or moving containers to a sheltered location.
Watering: Adequate watering before winter helps prevent desiccation, which can cause browning and damage during cold, dry periods.
@GenuineDaisy1 How long have you had it ? I wouldn’t recommend leaving it outside in a pot. If you have a garage or basement it should do fine there for the cold months it’s too young to leave out unless you had planted it outside and even then it could die . Better to be safe than sorry until you figure out what it’s going to be inside or planted outdoors. If the latter I’d recommend planting in ground come spring .
