White spots and looks dull
What are these white spots?! Is my cactus okay? Itβs gotten really tall, but no flowers have produced.
Your cactus has gotten tall like that because it's not getting enough light. It's called etiolation, where a plant stretches out in search of more light. That's why as it's grown taller, it's also become skinnier at the top (I drew a line on the cactus showing where the normal, healthy growth ended and the etiolated growth began). This is an easy fix, you just give your cactus more light! They need a LOTβat least 4-6 hours of DIRECT sunlight a day. I see you're using a grow light, but it's either not strong enough or too far away. The ideal spot is right in front of a west or south-facing window, but if you don't have either then a grow light will have to suffice. The smaller lights sold on Amazon for $20 or less probably aren't strong enough to meet your cactus's needs. For a few bucks more, you can get a decent full-spectrum light strip (Barrina and Sansi are excellent brands). Position it about 8-10" above your cactus, then adjust as needed.
Ok, sorry to keep you waiting for my take on those white spots! π Fortunately I don't think they pose any danger to your plant, but it's a little hard to tell for sure from this photo. Do they look crusty or more fluffy/cottony? My initial guess is that it's some type of debris or old dried up sap, but more details will help me narrow it down π
