Are those… what I think they are!

Ok so I was on a call when I noticed THIS. I got off the call and took a look. So I said to myself as the planty person I am, those can’t be Areal roots, they usually don’t grow inside there. Then, I knew what they were. They were auxiliary roots! I think my plant is flowering! Just to make sure here’s a photo. Am I right?

Um....., How do I say this? I don't want to break your heart. πŸ’”

Especially because I can tell your very happy.

Okay.... here goes.....

I think it's thrips.....

If you need the treatment just ask and I'll share it with you.

I'm sorry....... I feel super duper bad now.... 😒😭
Thrip treatment is more complicated because they burrow. She will need to be treated every 3 days for 6 week and don't skip a treatment because then you have to start at square 1 again.

Isolate your plants so others don't get them, they can fly crawl and jump. Bathtub for duration on treatment is recommended.

Thrip treatment choices:

Neem oil:

4 teaspoons neem oil + 2 teaspoons soap (Castile preferred its plant safe)
Mixed in 1 gallon water

Insecticidal Soap: (Castile Recommended)

1 Tablespoons of soap per gallon of water

Spray down entire plants tops and bottoms of leaves stems etc. Spray down until treatment is dripping off.

For duration of treatment the full 6 weeks when you water her use your treatment to flush out the soil. Pour mix through pot until it runs out of the bottom.

Since they burrow the treatment has to be longer because they are inside the plant leaves and stems and you will never be able to get them when burrowed your treatment won't be able to reach there. They pupate and emerge from the soil which is why that must also be treated.

But those are the classic white or silvery specks on your plant. Again, I'm very sorry. You won't be able to see them usually they are very small. The white on the stems are their scars left behind. Sometimes you will see little black specks on the underside of the plant leaves.
Hi! Thanks for looking out! But those are not thrips. I actually just misted my silver sword yesterday! What your seeing are dew. I thoroughly check every plant each month. Thank you for your concerns. Now that I look at the photo, it does look like thrips. In real life I assure you it’s water. And those brown things what do you think they are?
@PHILO yeah I don’t know how they got thrips from that photo. I’ve noticed this a lot on my philodendrons lately (the root coming down the sheath). I’m about to deep dive into auxiliary roots. Should you just leave them alone?
