okay first of all take a pair of scissors, and pry that orange “flower” off, and if it won’t come off, cut off the spines that the “flower” is attached too, it’s okay, cutting off an few needles won’t hurt the cactus. second of all, let me educate you on how to care for a cactus. (because you’re going straight to jail if you water with one tablespoon🫣😬) so, in the desert, it is extremely dry for a long period of time. we’re talking no rain for 1-2 months, but then all of a sudden, it rains hard, extremely hard, it pours down tons and tons of rain for hours, then stops, and goes back to being dry for 1-2 months. so, when you water a cactus, or any plant, you never follow a watering schedule. you check the soil, the easiest way to check the soil is to to stick a chopstick or any long skinny object into the soil, and if soil particles stick to the probe, don’t water, if the probe comes out completely dry with no soil particles on it, then you water. and when you water, especially when you water a cactus, you soak the cactus. you bottom water, you top water, you pour the water onto the top of the cactus and let it run down the stem (the green part of the cactus is actually the stem!), however you want to water, but you want to water lots and lots, until it starts pouring out of the drainage holes. and since it was in walmarts greenhouse, its use to ambient, soft light, so if you just abruptly put it in direct sunlight, it will get sunburned and turn white. so instead, give it 2 days of inside bright indirect light, then on the 3rd and 4th day, put it in the shade outside, on days 5 and 6, give it only direct morning east sun outdoors, then take it inside for the afternoon, and then finally on the 7th and 8th day, give it direct morning east sun outdoors, and direct west afternoon sun outdoors, so it’s in direct sunlight outside basically all day. and please, even though cacti live in dry places, it’s not about how much water you give a plant, it’s how often you’re watering it.
