Olive tree
Anyone have tips for keeping an olive tree alive? How often to water and such i was gifted one and have no clue how to care for it. Its about 2 feet tall and it will be indoors. Thanks!
@MaturingIvy1 Welcome to the Greg community! To care for an indoor potted olive tree, place it in a sunny spot with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily, preferably near a south-facing window, and water regularly to keep the soil moist but not soggy, ensuring good drainage; prune regularly to maintain its shape and size, and fertilize with a balanced liquid fertilizer every few months; be cautious of overwatering as it can lead to root rot. Here are some pointers: Sunlight: Olive trees thrive in full sun, so position them near a south-facing window for maximum light exposure.
Watering: Water deeply when the top inch of soil feels dry, but avoid overwatering which can lead to root rot.
Soil: Use well-draining potting mix to prevent waterlogging.
Pruning: Regularly prune to maintain the desired shape and size, removing dead or crossing branches.
Fertilizing: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season (spring and summer).
Temperature: Olive trees prefer moderate temperatures, so avoid extreme cold or heat.
Pests: Keep an eye out for common pests like scale insects and treat with neem oil if necessary. This website might have more info: https://www.livelyroot.com/blogs/plant-care/olive-tree-care#:~:text=The%20olive%20tree%20prefers%20full,for%20this%20easy%2Dgoing%20plant. Happy growing!
