Sally is looking a little sad :(

Hi! So I’ve had my star cactus a little over half a year now. Since I’ve had her, she’s slowly started looking more and more dehydrated. She’s still alive but definitely struggling. When I put her in direct sunlight she shrivels up but when I take her out of the direct sunlight, she also shrivels up. Help! What should I do? I water her about every ten days. Should I repot? #HappyPlants #SucculentLove #NewPlantMom
12ft to light, indirect
3” pot without drainage
Last watered 9 months ago
Hello @Yellowconverse. If your plant card is correct, it sounds like it might be a case of accidental over-watering due to soil type and lack of drainage. If the roots have rotten, that cactus can't soak up water and will continue to dehydrate. I recommend unpotting and checking out the roots. They should be white/whitish and no bad smell. If it looks good, a terracotta pot with drainage and a chunky/gritty succulent mix with added amendment like perlite for extra drainage and aeration. Only water when the soil is COMPLETELY dry and always check first. I hope this helps. Let us/me know if you have any other questions or need help. Good luck πŸ€žπŸ‘πŸ˜Š
Hi @Yellowconverse all plants need some time to adjust to new settings so it makes sense that when being taken from one extreme to the other your plant shrivels up. Slowly get it more light and let it adjust and it will spring back.

When you say she looks dehydrated what do you mean? Is the color dull? Is it developing wrinkles? Is it soft to the touch?

Your planter is super cute but I see that it doesn't have drainage which really bad for succulents. I'd suggest reporting it. You can put it in a nursery pot and use the mummy as a cover pot.
@nave the green is becoming brown and the star cactus is supposed to be β€œjuicy” but instead it’s shriveled and not crispy but definitely not wet and moist.
Oh thanks for the photo @Yellowconverse. I think @FairyFly is right and you might have root rot going on based on the severity. let us know what you find when you check the roots.
