BRACE YOURSELF.. She’s rough.
Help Help Help…So I’m a first time plant parent, and I have no idea what I’m doing.. I thought I placed Fergie ( that’s my ferns name) close/ far enough to a window but now I’m re thinking.. this window gets mid day light but only for a couple hours and she’s in a bathroom.. I was hoping she would get enough steam since it’s what we use each day but idk.. I’m so lost, please help! Also, be kind.. I really want this to work out but I need positive and reassuring help!

Hi Megan! I think where to have it is ok- bright indirect light, getting good humidity in bathroom. Browning leaves usually mean it’s underwatered- they like moisture- just not wet soggy soil. So I’m wondering what kind of soil is it in, does the soil have quite a bit of organic matter? And how often are you watering her? A good mix would be a peat based soil with added perlite or vermiculite. I live in Texas and I have to water mine 2-3 times a week, but mine is pretty big so it’s outside. You can also mist Fergie. I hope this helps! You got this- germs are pretty happy as long as they get a good drink. ☺️
Yeah, I’ve been keeping up with the soil requirements and I’m happy to hear. I have her in a good place in regards to moisture and sunlight. I wasn’t watering her 2 to 3 times a week because my mom has a fern and so she said that she doesn’t water hers as often, but I don’t know if hers is different or What. So I was watering her once a week and then I noticed the browning but I would feel her soil and it seemed like it was damp, but I didn’t know how damp was damp enough.😅😅😅 but I will be watering her 2 to 3 times a week now. I’m in Cali! So it’s pretty warm! Thank you so much for that. Also, how many cups of water do you give your baby?
@RelaxedOkra44 my Fern is in a 20 inch pot and is outside because of how big it is- and here in Texas it’s hot hot hot, so I water it until water comes out the bottom. Everyone has a different environment- for instance- I keep our A/C at 67 while my parents was 80 degrees. After you’ve taken care of Fergie for a while you will get to know her needs. I’ve been doing plants my whole life and I learn new things all the time!
