Why do buds form, then dry and not open?

#PhalaenopsisOrchid
4” pot with drainage

Hi @PoetOakmoss89 πŸ‘‹ bud blast is what it’s called and it’s not uncommon. It typically happens when something stressful happens. It could be a sudden change in temperature, light or humidity that caused the plant to stop blooming in order to survive. It could also be inadequate light so it doesn’t have the energy to continue to bloom (or too harsh light that burns the buds). Over fertilizing can cause it too. Stop fertilizing once the buds have developed, or greatly reduce the amount of fertilizer until after it’s done blooming. Also keep your orchid away from ripening fruit such as bananas 🍌, scented candles and cigarette smoke.
Thanks
