Yellowing leaves
Hey hive mind! My monstera adansonii is struggling, but only on its middle leaves! top leaves are thriving but i keep losing the middle to lower leaves as they turn yellow and drop off.
top leaves are large, happy, and new ones springing up all the time
- this is my only plant on a moss pole - maybe the roots in the pole are struggling because they’re not damp enough?
- high light position, also a high wind position (see open window)
- no signs over overwatering
- had thrips a few months ago but i’m pretty confident they’re gone now
i will likely cut the top off and restart but want to make sure i don’t make the same mistakes!

Hi Jasmine! You can absolutely prop the entire top. I had the same issue about 3 months ago- cut mine and the prop has been in soil a month and looks awesome, and the mother plant is filling out nicely- see my photo. I’m copying and pasting some infor for you on how to prop that top, and how to care for the mother plant after making your cutting/s. Here is how to do it successfully:✂️ Step-by-Step Propagation- Locate a Node: Find a node (the bump where a leaf meets the stem) below your healthy top growth. Include Aerial Roots: Look for small, brown nubs near the node. Including these ensures faster root development. Make the Cut: Use sterilized scissors or shears to cut cleanly about a half-inch below the node. Try to have at least 1-2 leaves on the cutting. Root in Water: Place the cutting in a jar of clean water, ensuring the node is fully submerged. Maintain Light: Keep the jar in bright, indirect light and change the water weekly. Repot: Once roots reach 2–3 inches long, and you have then secondary roots….plant the cutting back into soil. Make sure you have good, chunky soil! 🌿 Caring for the Remaining Base- Reduce Water Slightly: The base will have fewer leaves and will consume water more slowly for a few weeks. Provide Bright Light: Keep the remaining plant in strong, indirect light to stimulate new, compact growth. I hope this helps! Any questions- ask anytime! 🪴💕
