Why won’t my ZZ Raven put out new growth?

I got this guy in the beginning of November of last year and it’s looked the exact same since. I water about once a month and give full sun. Just a slow grower or am I doing something wrong? #ZzPlant #help
Do you have a plant light if you don’t try putting a plant light on it
@leafyliv I don’t believe you’re doing anything wrong. We just came out of winter, in the northern hemisphere, the time of year when plant growth can slow way down, depending on where you are! Now if they don’t put out any new growth during spring or into summer, then we may have to come back and troubleshoot. But for right now? Seems perfectly normal!
Ravens can be a bit πŸ¦₯ to grow but if it is drying out all the way sooner than once a month go ahead and water it more (ONLY if it's totally dry) and try a bit of fertilizer when you do. That might prompt some growth.
Your ZZ looks pretty healthy so you are doing something right! ZZ plants are slow growers by nature and they do go through a period of dormancy in winter, hence your comment about no growth! I’d consider repotting in a slightly bigger pot to encourage new growth or alternatively , you can snip a few of the top leaves back and propagate them which will also encourage new growth. I think it’s just a matter of the timing when you purchased the plant. Hopefully you see new growth now that it’s Spring. Good luck!
I’ve had my Raven ZZ for about a year and a half, and it’s only just now put out its second wave of new growth since the day I brought her home. You’re doing just fine, she’s a slow grower for sure!
It’s very important to also feed your plant in the spring and summer months as this is the growing season. A 10-10-10 diluted to half strength can be just the ticket to make the new growth pop. Just make sure to water 3-4 (a month or so) times before feeding again to make sure any heavy minerals flush through the soil. Happy planting!
Hi @leafyliv I’m also in Ottawa!! I also got a regular ZZ same size with 4 short stems as a gift in November. I recently killed my older 8” 3 Feet TALL one once (that even had flowers yrs. ago) by over-watering when I moved 😭 and now face North w/out grow lights cuz they like North. Sometimes I gently search under the soil for tiny bumps on empty’ish rhizomes. They will grow off of them. Maybe a bigger pot cuz a few of my roots are now at top, but keep the rhizomes close to the top (covered). Greg was giving me πŸ’¦ 2 wks but I think once a month is good for a 4” pot and healthy! Patiece Pays SLOWLY. Good luck. I wish I had a Raven πŸ¦β€β¬›!
What direction is the window facing? Are you fertilizing?
@leafyliv I'll tell yah, mine was 3 short things for like a year. Then out of nowhere, it shot up 3 new 12 inchers. And a long time after that, it put up 3 foot and a half stems. Both times were when I was mistreating it πŸ˜…
My raven ZZ didn’t grow til she was 2 years old. The plant is now 5 years old. It grows slow, and goes through dormancy through fall and winter. I’m in Michigan and I notice that most of my growth now will occur in June/july. Your plant looks totally fine, like mine did when I bought it. Water when it’s bone dry, keep it near a bright window, and make sure to dust the leaves off regularly
In my experience with 3 different ZZ plants, I've noticed that they like to be pot bound a bit before they really start pushing up new growth. Yours looks real young, so it will be a while before it puts out new growth. It looks happy though! So just keep doing what you're doing!
