Hey everyone! I was trimming my Tradescantia and snipped ...

Hi Jaime!

The biggest thing about propping them is to ensure you have a node in the soil or water. Personally, I find it super tempting to cut just above a leaf and then stick it in the pot but because I cut just above the node, I have to push it really deep into the soil and end up either rotting the stem or never getting the node in ๐Ÿ™ƒ

What you need to do is make sure you have a node at the bottom of the cutting (right where the leaf and stem meet) then remove the bottom few leaves and put it in soil or back in the pot. I've had MUCH better luck now that I've been paying attention to the nodes and ensuring they get into the soil.
@PlantMompy thank you! Do you think I would have better luck in water?
I know people that have had luck in water and perlite.

I haven't tried, but that's because soil works well enough for my zebrina.

Other tradescantia I try in water have always failed for me. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿฝ
@PlantMompy thank you for all the info! I am going to give it a go
You're welcome!!
I've had no luck with water prop with these guys, I just snip of a piece of the vine, stick it in rooting hormone and back in the pot, seems to work well!!
@Sassylimey I was cleaning up my plant stuff today and found rooting hormone, I am going to give that a try
Iโ€™ve had luck rooting them in water if I have it with a snipping of my pothos plant.
@IdealCamellia so I ended up attempting it in water so I will update if we have root growth! I didnโ€™t add a pothos clip, but I definitely could have. Iโ€™m trying to be patient lol
I prop mine in water all the time. They root very quickly! #PropagationStation #TradescantiaZebrina
They are super easy to propagate, if thereโ€™s a node, just stick it in the same soil as the momma plant. Make sure to water afterwards. I do this often and have 4-5 new shoots going. You could also take a cup and fill it with perlite, wet it but not to where it is dripping wet, use a pencil or something narrow and make a hole, prop your cutting inside the perlite, you will have roots in no time.
I have some making roots now :)
It worked!!!!
When I propagate in water ๏ฟผI always let the clipping dry for a day or two, helps to keep them from rotting and keep the water clean
@UppermostAlmond so should I take it out, dry for a day or two and then pot in a nursery pot? Also, thank you for your input, I appreciate it!
