My pilea leaves are turning black and falling off?!

So I got my new Pilea for Christmas from my boyfriend, and the leaves are just falling off and looking very unhappy - what can I do to help them! If there’s any suggestions you have please let me know!
2ft to light, indirect
6” pot with drainage

did you repot it? sometimes when they come from stores the soil is compacted and that makes it hard for the plants to get correct water.
@RJG I was thinking about it and repotting is my next step I think. I hate plastic pots and can never get on with them, so will rehome him in a terracotta pot. Is there a soil type you’d recommend? I’ve got some pearlite / potting soil mix - would that be okay for him?
that should be perfect. Try and get as much of the old soil off the root base as possible without damning the roots. good luck!
Thank you so much! 🌱
It might just be shock, it might be a pest. I would try Bonide insect control granules, they have been a great help for me. When I first got my pilea, I couldn’t find the right window to make it happy but I finally got it under a grow light and after 8 months it is thriving
@PlantzRLife55 thank you, I’ve changed his pot now and will get some of the granules, worth having! Thank you so much
@Teapott73 thank you Tiffany! New spot and new pot are underway!!
Tree Diddy is happier in his new pot and new spot! Thank you for your help everyone! 🌱✨
