How do I start a new Christmas cactus

#Thanksgiving cactus
Last watered 1 year ago
Here are some steps for propagating a Christmas cactus from a cutting in soil:
Take a healthy section of the stem, usually with 2–3 jointed segments.
Cut or pinch off the section at a joint.
Let the cut end dry out in a cool, dry place for several days.
Fill a pot with a well-draining potting mix, perlite, or coarse sand.
Water the rooting medium and let it drain for a few minutes.
Insert the cut end of the section about 1 inch deep into the medium.
Firm the medium around the section to keep it upright.
Water the medium again.
Place the pot in a well-lit area, avoiding direct sunlight.
Water sparingly at first to prevent rotting.
After about two or three weeks, the cutting should start showing signs of growth at the tips of its leaves.
They root very easily and yours looks healthy ! I’ve never had luck drying them out unfortunately . I use growth hormone to start all my cuttings . I’ve found this the fastest way to propagate new growth.
@ILoveMyPlants I never heard of ggrowth
@PetVelvetweed Groth hormones common names - Take root it a dusting for the tips , I also have growth soil either or it’s great stuff . I’d rather fo it naturally so thanks for the tips . This community is great for learning and helping . I find no advice bad just interesting ways of doing it differently
@FlyingWoodfern Okay now I gotta a question πŸ§šπŸ½β€β™€οΈ where would I start with all the growth underneath would be my guess ? I’ve also heard of the propagation using wet paper towels . Just don’t wanna mess my Kim Kim up been sending her pictures of all the groth on the gifted plants .
