Help, my lanceleaf coreopsis is wilting and idk what to d...
#GrowLights
I'm a first time plant mom and my lanceleaf coreopsis is wilting. It's growing fine and is about to bloom in pot #2 while pot #1 is wilting and starting to shrivel. What do I do? I've tried giving pot #1 more water as it's been hot but that doesn't seem to be doing anything. Any suggestions? My pot is 13"×12" and I have outdoor potting mix as my soil with 2 drainage holes in the bottom. The only difference in the pots is there is an additional lanceleaf in pot #1.

Hey Abigail ! welcome to plant parenthood😆 this is a super common hurdle, and that clue about pot #1 having an extra plant in the pot is likely the answer. when a plant is wilting and water doesn’t help it usually points to one of two things happening in the root level:
hydrophobic soil - because pot #1 has an extra plant those roots are drinking twice as fast. if that pot dried out completely during a hot spell potting soil sinks and repels water, when you pour water in it just runs down inside the edges of the pot and straight out the bottom without actually soaking the root ball.
fix - stick your finger deep into the soil if it feels bone dry and dusty underneath despite watering, give the pot a thorough soak by sitting it in water for 30mins so the soil can rehydrate from the bottom up.
alternatively tho
overwatering/root suffocation - if you stick your finger in and the soil feels completely soggy or muddy, the roots might be drowning, coreopsis love excellent drainage. if the soil stays constantly saturated, the roots will rot and can no longer absorb water, causing the plant to wilt from dehydration even tho it’s sitting in wet soil.
fix - if it’s wet stop watering and let the pot dry out completely and make sure those drainage holes aren’t blocked!
once the plant recovers you’ll want to separate them and give the extra lancelot its own pot. they have very vigorous roots and are currently fighting each other for space and water.
hope i could be of some help!
