It depends on where your plant is geographically located and how much shading stuff it has around it.
Sun always rises east, and sets in the west. Shadows will point in the direction opposite of where the sun is in the sky and that creates shade!
The sun typically is out for 12 hours, if your plant is on the west side of your house (with no other shade) it will get at least 6 hours of sunlight in the afternoon as the morning light will be hidden behind your house until 12pm as an example. If its in a place that's very open it might get 0 shade until night.
That's kinda the gist

@permacultleader It is currently on the west side of the house. There is a pergola that may block it and it probably gets about 4 hrs of afternoon sun.
