Boston fern losing leaves

I got this Boston fern about a month ago. Some of the shoots have nice glossy leaves, but the leaves on others are so dry they fall off at the slightest touch.

It's not near any kind of vent, and because my house is dry I mist the leaves every other day. I'm watering it on the schedule determined by the app (once per week, which is twice as often as my other, healthy, plants.)

What am I doing wrong?
10ft to light, indirect
6โ€ pot with drainage
Last watered 3 years ago
Are the dead leaves dry & crispy or soggy? I have heard that misting only helps for as long as the water stays on the leaves - not sure how true that is. It could just be that the general environment is too dry. You could try moving it into a smaller space with a humidifier or a humid area such as a bathroom.
The leaves on the healthy branches are good; the bad ones are dry and crispy. Unfortunately my bathroom isn't big enough to keep a plant, but I'll try a humidifier.
Follow-up: what should I do about the naked branches? Will the leaves grow back, or should I prune them down to the soil?
My fern was an outside plant in the summer east side , beautiful plant in the fall , put it in a south window water weekly by mid January it started to dye it eventually turn all brown I had to trim it shake it now it sit 15 ft from a north & west window & sit in 1 in of water the plant is started to look heathy again with new stem out of the bottom
Hmm. It's still too cold here to move it outside, although I do plan on doing that when it's warm enough. Right now it's next to an east-facing window which doesn't get any light anyway (tall bushes right outside), so I don't think it's getting too much light.

I'll try trimming off all the empty shoots, and watering it considerably more than the app suggests for a while.
