White on staghorn fern soil
Hi everyone,
I have a seemingly healthy staghorn fern, but I just checked the soil and saw all this weird white stuff. Can anyone tell me what it is and what I should do? Thanks so much!

Technically it’s saprophytic fungi which isn’t one of the harmful ones. But it does point out the substrate is staying too damp and has a lot of organic content, which inevitably leads to the harmful fungi and root rot if you don’t let the substrate dry out/increase airflow around and in the substrate..
If you don’t like how it looks you can remove it with a spoon and work on correcting the dampness issue with letting it dry out, or moving it to a free draining substrate like bark/compost/little bit of moss, it’s epiphytic type fern so it doesn’t want it’s roots in very dense stuff that stays really damp.
