How to save?
How can I save this guy? Heβs a family heirloom and very special. Should I chop him down completely? Should I put in water? Should I give him a smaller pot? #help #savemyplant #Dyingplant #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #NewGrowth #PropagationStation

Well, I would like to thank you dearly for being a responsible plant owner. Heeding a warning, and then following up with some research yourself is to be applauded. Not everyone will take a warning seriously, thinking it wonβt happen to them. Then a bad outcome happens, you prevented that. You set a wonderful example for others to follow I am incredibly proud of you π
First off I want to warn you that these are highly toxic. Every single part of it is poisonous flowers and all. So, use extreme caution when handling any part of it. As just a small amount can kill a full grown adult. Any pets and children should be kept out of reach.
Now that I said this I will move on.
First thing I notice is a Terracotta pot. Not ideal for this. It is drought tolerant but still likes water. Constant periods of drought will take a toll. To keep it in the best condition it needs water and a pot that will hold some water like clay or porcelain that will give your plant enough time to absorb the water it needs.
Terracotta pulls moisture away from the roots (great for succulent and cacti), but your oleander needs to have time to absorb that water.
Your profile says this is a succulent it is not it is actually an evergreen tree and needs to be cared for differently.
So in your case itβs not so much about the pot size itβs the material the pot is made of. I would actually trim it back a bit but leave at least 4-6 leaves on it it will branch out and become more full that way. You can put the cut part in water making sure to keep a node covered it might root.
It should bounce back pretty quickly since they are very durable trees. When you water allow the soil to dry almost completely and then go ahead and water again.

@Ponytailmom oleander!
@SuperbRaspfern oh my gosh I had no idea!!! Thank you so so much for warning me. Iβm going to throw it out as I donβt want any toxicity around me or my dog! Thank you again. I just did more research and youβre right
You are very welcome. I just always like to educate and let people be aware for safety reasons. Too many unfortunate cases of accidental death and poisoning. Youβre not alone there are many people who are unaware of many plants and their hazards. πͺ΄ Iβm thankful you had the opportunity to look it up π. Itβs always better to be safe than sorry.
@SuperbRaspfern thank you again Shannon β€οΈ
