#Codiaeum I was away for a week and came back and noticesd this discoloration on both sides of the leaf stem. Is this normal or is it a sign of some type of distress ?οΏΌ

Hey @RationalLichen! Your Croton is looking fabulous overall those colors are poppin A bit of stem or petiole discoloration where the leaf meets the stem can be totally normal in Crotons, especially with age or after a quick environmental shift (like light changes while you were away). They’re drama queens, so even a few days of change can make them show signs of β€œdistress” that aren’t serious. BUT keep an eye on it. If the discolored area feels mushy, spreads, or starts turning black or soft, that could be a sign of rot or fungal trouble. In that case, prune the affected area with clean shears and check that your soil isn’t staying soggy too long (they love to dry out a bit between waterings).Otherwise? She’s just being a little theatrical. Totally on brand for Crotons. πŸ˜„ You’re doing great!
@JungleDreamer thanks so much for the great response. That’s good news. I actually found this hiding hiding behind a bunch of plants under a shelf in Safeway a few weeks ago. In total darkness. So it probably is going through a little bit of culture shock. I’ll definitely keep my eye out for those signs. Thanks again for the quick response and happy gardening . οΏΌοΏΌ
@RationalLichen Sounds like she’s finally getting the light, love, and air circulation she deserves. A little culture shock is totally expected your TLC is already working wonders. Keep an eye out, but she’s in great hands now. Happy gardening to you too!
