What I have done in the past was use compost. You can use your plant waste like peels from a banana or an apple core. You can throw a lot of things in the compost and let it decompose. You can do more research about this if you want. Another thing is I would pour water in the compost bin that I have and let the water drip into a bucket or pot. It is called compost tea. Yeah, I keep mine outside. You also might not want to put it on the patio. When the water drips down it can temporarily stain the patio. It can take awhile for the compost to decompose, but if you don’t want to wait as long, you can make the compost tea. You can do this by pouring water into the bin. The water will begin to drip down so I would use something to catch it. I generally use an extra pot.
