Should I take the stems out that the top leaves broke off...

#BasketPlant
5” pot with drainage
Last watered 5 months ago
They drop leaves when overwatered. These guys need to dry between waterings.

I would cut the stem off that dropped its leaves. Especially because the prop REALLY easily. Even a stem cutting with a node will make a new plant! No leaves needed. So I would chop and prop the big stem. I would cut right above the very last node on the stem. Leave one, that way she will grow new stems, usually they branch and make 2 stems instead of the original one. That will give you a full pot again.

Those pups will develop their own roots in time. It's generally better to wait until they have strong root systems.

My other suggestion to make your plant full is to turn one or two of those runners around and put them right back in the pot with a node covered. They will root and make more pups.

You could even hang a basket with soil beside that pot and run a couple into to new pot so you have another pot full. Once the runners root you will see a new growth at that point you can cut the runner free from the mama plant.
@SuperbRaspfern it didn’t drop them they were in pots on my porch railing and a neighborhood cat knocked them off so they were broken. I put them in the hanging pot yesterday to keep that from happening again. I was able to prop the part that broke off but then we had a storm and that broke off too. I’m just having bad luck. But will definitely just continue propping.
Ooupsie, 🐈. Sorry you plant has had such a rough go of it. Luckily it the kind of plant that can come back from damage just fine 🩷
@SuperbRaspfern yeah you should have seen it when I got it. Someone gave it to me and I thought they gave me a dead plant. I didn’t know what the heck I was doing but I brought it back from the brink.
@Ashyem2007 That's great, plus it feels really good to save them 🩷. She's got a lot of fun runners too! It's okay that she's a bit beat up, it happens. It's fun to see them bounce back and change continually. 🩷
@SuperbRaspfern that pot it came in didn’t have drainage holes. I repotted them and the one with no leaves ended up dying but the other two did awesome and I propped the three runners that fell off it. I really had no idea what I was doing so when I took it out it’s pot I just cut all the roots off which was probably not the right thing to do but it worked and it made it.
That's so exciting! They are amazing plants. You should be proud of yourself for saving her. And you have great plant instincts! 🩷
@SuperbRaspfern thank you!
