Self watering pots
Just learned these aren’t always good. Can anyone advise what plants are not good for self watering pots other than succulents?
@ShellysPlants so self watering pots are NOT good for any plant that likes to dry out between waterings. So succulents, dracaena, snake plants… aloe, etc.
But they are fabulous for ferns and some types of monsteras. I have a standleyana and a pinnatapartida in a self watering pot doing amazing. Same with my baby tears and my pilea glauca. Things that don’t like to dry all the way do well.
You also don’t have to store water in the reservoir. So there’s that option.

@ShellysPlants I'm coming to the realization that the best way to use them is to fill the reservoir and bottom water the plant. Then dump the water out until it's time to water again. If you knew how many plants I've accidentally unalived when I first started taking care of plants before I figured it out. SMH 🙄
@princesspitstop thank you will do so
@TheOddAsity thanks
@ShellysPlants I have a heartleaf philo and a brasil in a self water pot and they’re thriving. I have a chunky well draining soil with them. For alocasia, I have created a self watering situation with a glass vase, rope, perlite and sphag for my Melo. Let me find the IG video that I used for inspiration.
@TheOddAsity thanks so much
