I'm a little confused about your question. Are you asking whether they like to be crowded in their pots? As far as watering, you want the soil the completely dry out between waterings. They're similar to succulents and don't like sitting in wet soil. If it's difficult to water without getting the leaves wet (which they also don't like), you can try bottom watering instead.
