Slowly dying Rhipsalis :(

I’ve tried to grow this guy in a pot a few times and every time it slowly goes brown. Does anyone know why or have any tips? #Rhipsalis
Hi Sally, if your plant info is correct, you should repot into a planter with drainage. The green pot has a saucer (attached?) and that doesn’t allow the water to drain very well. But if it’s in the nursery pot inside the white pot- it still may not be draining properly or getting enough air circulation. That causes the soil to stay wet which leads to overwatering, and root rot. These plants like consistently moist soil- but they don’t like their feet to stay wet. Also, a good draining soil is a cactus/succulent mix and add perlite and bark to help with drainage. I hope this helps!
Increase humidity. These grow in a rainforest in trees. They are epiphytes and get a lot of their moisture from the air surrounding them. They need 50% humidity minimum but do even better with 70%.

I will give you some tips to raise humidity. But she would do best with a humidifier.

I have a bunch of different types and they live close to my humidifier.

Ways to add humidity

1. Add a humidifier, but only use distilled water in it.

2. Add a pebble tray filled with water below your plant. But make sure the pot is never in the water. As water evaporates it increases humidity.

3. Cluster plants together. It will make water evaporate from your leaves in a process called transpiration. It effectively creates a mini microclimate with extra humidity.

Never mist, it does not increase humidity but will cause fungal and bacterial infections.
