7” pot with drainage
Last watered 3 years ago
Hi! I wouldn’t suspect cold - it’s just the bottom leaves? Have you checked top and bottom (under the leaves) for any pests?
The plant card says the pot has no drainage. So if possible I’d fix that asap as it will get root rot just sitting in wet dirt.
@SummeryMiro Hello πŸ‘‹ and welcome to Greg, Mateja!

For one your plant card say there is no drainage. I would recommend getting a pot with drainage. Also please note that this is a Dieffenbachia (botanical name Dieffenbachia Seguine) not a Aglaonema. I have added some pictures for your reference.
Hi @RealSimpleMama thank you for your response. Hmm... I just checked and the there were no bugs on the leaves... What else might they look like? Or what else should I look for?
As for the pot I marked it wrong... it has drainage, but thank you for pointing it out
Hi @SummeryMiro are you sure this is dieffenbachia? Because on the plant pot it sais it is aglaonema white kiwi... So now Im not sure reallyπŸ€”
@SummeryMiro hey! Let’s do this. Can you take some closer photos of the leaves you’re worried about? Unfortunately there are lots of different pests who show up differently but in general leaf damage, tiny black or white spots, webbing or fuzz that’s white…
But if it’s just those big leaves on the bottom (which are the oldest leaves), my guess it’s a root issue.
There are some a bit yellow
Then a couple of these that have dry peaks and are brownish
And maybe worth mentioning the soil has these white mold-like pieces scatered on the top
And the rolled up ones
Hey @RealSimpleMama I posted some photos of the problematic areas and would really appreciate your opinion on the matter 😊
Hi! Great photos. That helped a lot.

Ok so here’s what I think. I’m guessing the plant got mad because it was too wet (yellow stems and leaves, overwatering or being too wet is usually the issue) or there’s something going on with the roots.

When you can, slide it out of the pot and check out the roots (you can upload more photos too!). Roots should be white or yellow and firm, and not be root bound.
@RealSimpleMama I tried to get it out of the pot but I just watered it today so it wont budge... But the soil was completely dry so I felt I had to. When I get the chance in a couple of days I will get it out and send you a pic ☺️
I agree it's a bit of root rot due to "wet feet". Do get a pot that drains. These plants like soil to dry out before fully watering.
Hey @GuruLionsmane
thanks for your reply... The pot is actualy draining... But I don't understand why are some of the leaves crispy-dry and brown then? Any idea?
Any cold drafts?
@SummeryMiro I’m actually waiting for someone who’s more of a pro to chime in on that - because it almost seems to me like two different things going on. The yellowing due to a root issue BUT maybe the oldest (lowest) leaves just dying as the plant puts out new growth? If that makes sense, like a normal rotation
@GuruLionsmane
yes... The plant is close to the window and every morning we open the window for 5 minutes to let in the fresh air... But that's it
Going down your pics to give you what I think it is based on my experience with aglaonemas

1. Rolled up leafs - I would think this is related humidity or slightly underwatering. The rolled up one in the very center is a new growth so that’s to be expected. Aglaonemas love humidity so winter is always a bit trying

2. Yellow leaf - Aglaonemas tend to loose some of their old leaves when there is a lot of new growth so this is natural and I usually have one or two older leaves that yellow when I have 4-6 new leaves coming in so it’s just a natural part of this plant.

3. Doing worry about soil mold it shouldn’t affect the plant. Water with diluted hydrogen peroxide to get rid of it if desired.

4. Brown tips - this again is from humidity or slightly under watered.

You were correct to water when top of the soil is dry and I would just check it a tad more often and water it when you feel the top 2” or so is dry. Overall beautiful plant that looks like he’s thriving with his new growth. I would just put a humidifier next to him if you have one. If not, winter is almost done and he should be fine until spring.
@Nataliesplants Thank you for your response, you really calmed me down😊 This is my new aglaonema and I have zero experience with it. I will keep a closer eye on the soil humidity and will try and mist it every day because I dont have a humidifier.. I hope that will do the trick. And thank you @RealSimpleMama and @GuruLionsmane for taking your time and all your advice it's really nice to be a part of such a caring community. πŸ€—
@SummeryMiro Hello ☺️
Regarding humidity - on the page for your plant, when you scroll down there's info about aglaonema's needs, and if you click on humidity, Greg includes some advice about how to increase it. I notice it says that Greg advises against misting. Good luck with your plant, it's beautiful! πŸ’—
