Hi, Jill! I'm glad you found Greg.

Your Schlumbergera truncata could possibly begin to bloom when the days get shorter. Some folks say that a drop in temperature will also kick them into gear. Usually, the Thanksgiving cactus will bloom around Thanksgiving in the northern hemisphere - when the days get shorter. (:
Hi Stella! Christmas cacti usually flower between November to February, with Thanksgiving right before. I have 6. 5 of them are Christmas and 1 is a Thanksgiving. Mine are all on my east facing back porch, outside. They do not get any direct sun- just lots of indirect light. I bring them inside in the fall where they sit in my west facing window. I water every 10 days (Texas heat). I get blooms most of the year, each plant at different times. Like Sarah said- they like low temps- lots of folks put their plants in a darker room or garage during the summer and water much less if at all. I don’t do anything special- I just watch my watering as they do not like to sit in soggy soil, keep them out of the sun, and just watch them do their thing. These are mine right now. Pic with flower- just opened yesterday. Bottom right of same pic is my struggling Easter Cactus.
