Orange Spots on Callisia Repens
Hello, I recently cut up my pink panther and essentially propagated the entire plant bc she got too leggy. Now, it’s got roots and it definitely growing. The leaves are a good distance apart so I think she’s got enough light. I water roughly every week, but I am using a moisture meter/chopstick test before watering. I’m seeing these orange spots on a good amount of the leaves, and I’m not sure what it is. Anyone have any ideas? #help #HappyPlants #CallisiaPinkPanther #CreepingInchPlant

@BumbleBee340 Debbie is correct, these plants are very susceptible to brown spots when water sits on their leaves, so bottom watering is the best way to go. They can also develop brown spots from inadequate airflow around the plant. Setting up a few small stroller fans across from each other can really help. And then sometimes they get brown spots for no apparent reason whatsoever lol 😝 Frequent chop n props can help with the scraggly/leggy look and get them to branch out more. And always let the soil almost completely dry out between waterings. Because moisture meters are notoriously unreliable, I have all my Tradescantia and Callisia in clear plastic pots. They not only allow you to keep an eye on the roots, but they also help with knowing when they're ready to be watered. If I can see any condensation on the inside of the pot, I hold off on watering 😊

My guess would be that these spots are caused by the water getting on her leaves. Tradescantia leaves are very sensitive to water and prone to brown spots. I bottom water mine, or carefully pour the water under the leaves directly on the soil. @stephongreg is the expert! 🪴
