Is my fly trap healthy?
Hi everybody :))
I got a venus fly trap ‘red dragon’ in the mail today from Blue ridge exotics and I was just wondering if it looked healthy. Only one of the fly traps were open when it arrived so I fed that one and then I watered the plant with rain water. It looks okay to me but I just wanted to check and make sure.

@V1N3C0V3R3D Yup! Since Venus fly traps come from swampy, consistently wet environments they do best with spagnum moss for soil (or other soil that has really high water retention) and sitting in about an inch or two high water pool. I hope this helps lol
@V1N3C0V3R3D Sorry I forgot to mention this in my other message lol, once it gets more open traps I would advise only feeding it so that one or two of the traps are full. It doesn’t look like there are a lot of open ones on yours yet so I’d go with only feeding one larger sized trap unless your plant is giving other signs. Venus fly traps take a while to process food and might use too much energy on digesting that there isn’t enough energy to keep the rest of the plant alive. Also they’ll thrive even more if you give them live food since they hold the most nutrients, but either way dead nutrients work too. It can be a bit of a hassle but they’re super cool to keep, especially when they get big!
