Dave will be fine as long as he gets some light, as much as you can give him. There’s a big difference between light that can sustain a plant and light that will grow a plant. The best way to think about it is consider where these plants naturally grow and try to mimic those conditions as best you can. In sunny conditions he will grow more than lower light conditions. Cactus are usually very slow growers, so you’re just getting started and will have Dave for years as long as he has good light, loose soil and drainage. Only water when soil is dry.
