Terracotta Watering?

Me and this plant go waaaaay back; it’s originally 3 pothos plants that all got infested with gnats so I propagated the entirety of the plants in water for a while and then created this plant β€œLucy”and my water culture pothos β€œKhalesi”. I recently repotted Lucy due to the roots growing out of the bottom and I don’t know why I decided on terracotta I’ve never used it before but here she is. I soaked it for a few hours before placing the plant and soil in. But now for watering I don’t know if I soak it, bottom water, top water, soak and top water???? Help please I am afraid of overwatering or another gnat situation. Thank you in advance! picture to show how amazing she looks in terracotta #terrecotta #pot #Pothos #GreggersSupportingGreggers

@Ma.the.Rebel I live in Utah, so my experience with terracotta might be different than others. But I have 4 pothos in terracotta pots, I top water about 3 waterings, then bottom water soak on the 4th ish. It’s not a science, per se. I just recognize I have to deep water them every so often. Like this neon… I usually catch it before it’s like this. It was a rescue from Lowe’s, so some leaves are marked up, but the yellowing leaves, it got too dry. I got too busy and should have deep watered the last watering.
The pot material doesn't bother the watering method IMO. Terracotta just lets the soil dry faster than plastic cause it's porous that's about it.
I tried Terracotta this summer. Didn’t like it. Was watering all the time. Soil dries out fast. I prefer bottom water too because of gnats. I ended up repotting everything terracotta to plastic.

I agree with Julie. Terracotta is not for me. Can that fired clay even be bottom watered? Not. Finally, rid my house of it all. (I did save a few ornate pieces and small sizes just in case πŸ€ͺ.)
Plastic is my go to. Most especially, Pothos and philodendron should NEVER be in terracotta.
@Ma.the.Rebel ps, where’d you get that pot? Is it a square? I love it!
You water the same as any other pot - terracotta is porous so theirs air flow and it absorbs watering so be diligent on monitoring its needs. It will help you learn what the watering pattern for that plant should be πŸ˜„
@TheOddAsity thank you for your response I will keep in mind your watering system 3 too 1 soak. So far my pothos looks happy and even sprouting new leaves all over . Your neon looks happy nice picture, I want a neon so badly.
@TheOddAsity yes it’s a rectangle and I love that it has drainage holes in the bottom. Got it at Home Depot
@Blau_Ozean awesome thank you so much I will be keeping my moisture meter in this one for a while πŸ˜… but so far so good.
