I have a leaf turning black- any ideas?
Last watered 11 months ago
@SvelteKowhai The yellowing and browning on your Alocasia leaf, likely indicates a watering issue, either overwatering or underwatering, or potentially issues with light exposure or humidity.
Good morning!
My Silver Dragon ๐ looks like that when a leaf is dying.
It's a natural process and quite ugly, actually!
When it starts to look like yours, I use a clean pair of scissors and cut it off at the base.
No worries ๐ โบ๏ธ ๐!
I think it should be fine.
This is Prince. Several weeks after he arrived about a year ago, I ended up having to cut off all leaves, except one, because they looked disgusting and were dying.
Just look at him now!
I had no idea that Alocasias have corms in their soil which slowly push through the soil to create tiny baby leaves that eventually become these giant, incredibly gorgeous, leaves!
Wishing you the best ๐

Me again!!!
Yikes ๐ถ
I just glanced at your plant card.
Every plant needs great drainage. Without it, they eventually will get root rot.
And...a month is quite a while to go before watering.
Please use only distilled water and make sure the topsoil is dry before watering, about 2" deep.
Alocasias are heavy feeders. The organic liquid fertilizer I use each watering is called SUPER THRIVE FOLIAGE GRO. It's easy to use.
Prince usually gets bottom watering and he drip dries for about 3 hours before putting him back under the grow lights in his cleaned saucer.
So Kacy, ๐, I chewed your ear off today but hoping it helped a little.
