ZZ Plant Propagation

Has anyone started a zz plant from a leaf cuttting or top cut? I have been looking at black raven and variegated zz plants for sale online and there are a lot of leaf cuttings available. How long does this take to grow a plant? Are we talking snake 🐍plant slow? Or slower?? 😆 #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PropagationStation #ZzPlant

Super fast if you propagate in water first and then plant.1 have 3 different baby zz plants that I have propagated in water for something like 4 weeks in a sunny spot or under a grow light and then transferred to soil and they are THRIVING! Google how to do it and it’s a snap. zzz

Is very slow. I bought my variegated leaf that already has a node end of May and it’s still basically a leaf in a pot 😂

I had asked the same question a month or so ago and someone posted a photo of their 2 year old zz propagated from a leaf and it was 2 or 3 tiny stalks with a couple of leafs on each. So if you’re willing to put in time a leaf works.

I took actual stem cuttings with multiple leaves on each for my propagation though.

Yes stem cuttings would be faster than a leaf.

@elisenavidad @PricklyThumb @HonoredRosilla ok thank you for all the tips. I have seen many people selling 1 leaf cuttings and stem cuttings. I think maybe I’ll look for a stem cuttings over a leaf cutting. Unless the price is right, or free! 😄 I’m still puzzled though as to why so many people are taking stem and leaf cuttings when my zz seams to be popping up new baby plants all over.

@elisenavidad @HonoredRosilla @PricklyThumb @LiftLashPlant well I went and ordered a leaf. It has roots started and it has a small rhizome started on it. So hoping it grows as easily as my other zz has.

@elisenavidad yes! It was listed just as a variegated zz. But I think it’s cool. 😎 I think I need to get it into dirt instead of moss. I think the moss is just for shipping. I have been searching for all different varieties of zz. There are some really interesting ones.

& yes, try the soil… I started using fox farm soil w worm castings & it’s already making a difference!! Highly recommend 🙌🏼
