How do I save this cactus

I just got a very small one myself so im not much help. But i just have mine in its original well draining pot at the moment and i only water mine every 2+ weeks or so or untill the soil starts to pull away from the outside of the pot, and it feels very hight in weight. But when i water it i put it in a bowl of water for about 20mins or i see the soil around the edge of the top to turn darker because of the water its getting and then ill take it out of the bowl of water and sit it on a paper towel and let the extra drip out, then put it in it window spot. Thats all i have been doing for mine... But its just a lil lil one
