@icecoldpee it's definitely not just the soil stuck to them? Besides being black, rotten roots will also be mushy/slimey and easily fall apart when you touch them. They might also have a putrid odor. Do your roots show any of those signs?
@stephonicle no I learned they’re only for an anchor to the ground and the leaves to all the usually work the roots would for moisture and nutrients. Cool rite?
@icecoldpee yep, they're a type of air plant so they get necessary moisture from...the air lol. But their roots can still rot if they sit in soggy soil for too long.
@stephonicle yeah I opted to just never water the roots really from now on. It didn’t seem like it needed much to begin with
