Is this some sort of root rot or just natural browning?#o...
Ok so this is my blood sage (saliva coccina) and I was wondering if theres something wrong with it because theres some browning and its a lot smaller than when I first got it. Im wondering if the soil isn't well draining enough because I just got some cheap potting soil at home depot. Should I get some sand/perlite and add it to the soil or should I just leave it be and see what happens as to not shock it?

Your plant is very hungry. It needs food. Most potting mixes contain no food, or very little. Get a good quality liquid plant food for vegetative plants. Use at full strength and water it heavily with that. Do that when the potting mix has dried up a bit and is ready to be watered again. After watering it a couple times with the food it should look way better.
If that doesnβt work, it could potentially be that the soil ph is out of range. I would start with the food situation, and then go from there.

All plants need food. Some plants just need a lot more than others. Like tomatoes, they need a ton. Or lettuce, which need much less. If all you have miracle grow, then you could start there. If you donβt mind spending a few bucks for much higher quality. You could try this general hydroponic flora οΏΌ series. I have not personally used this brand, but the company has been around for decades, and there are a lot of good reviews on Amazon. This type of food has every οΏΌ essential plant nutrient that is needed. οΏΌIf you have a smaller amount of plants and want to keep them well fed, this is probably a good option. If you have a very large collection of plants, then using this type of food could get expensive.οΏΌHope that helps.
