Why does my mango tree have brown tips?#
Welcome to Gregs Nom! I’m sorry the tips of your the Mango tree leaves are turning brown. I will give you several possible reasons, so you can play Sherlock Holmes and solve this mystery. 🙂
▫️Under watering: Don’t let the soil get too dry. Test the moisture in the soil using your finger. Water your tree when the top 2 inches of the soil feels dry to your index finger, (the 2nd knuckled). Always water deeply, (if it’s in a container) by continuing to water until the water drips out of the drainage hole, so the root ball will get dehydrated.
▫️Over-fertilization and also under-fertilization:
•Over-Fertilizing will burn the tree’s roots, and this usually causes the tips of the leaves to turn brown.
•But, under-fertilizing can also cause the leaves to turn brown.
▫️The Type of Water: The Mango trees are very sensitive to sodium in its water. And if it’s a container-grown Mango Tree, it’s susceptible to chlorine or chloramines related stress. These chemicals will buildup in the tree’s soil.
▫️Fungal growth: Namely a fungi called Anthracnose will cause the leaves to turn brown. (It’s contagious to the other plants in your oasis.) It starts with the new leaves and spread to the other leaves on the tree. Spray the leaves with a copper based fungicide spray.
🙏 I hope your Mango Tree will make a speedy recovery.
