Hydrangea help

Why is my hydrangea not blooming? We moved here over a year ago & This bush was thriving but now there is nothing although small hydrangeas throughout the yard are blooming.
That’s looking pretty dead to me. Is it getting as much water as the others?
1. Heat + Sun Burn (big one)
Hydrangeas hate intense afternoon sun, especially in Florida.
They prefer morning sun + afternoon shade.
That crispy, burnt look = classic sun scorch.
2. Underwatering / Dry Soil
That soil looks pretty dry and sandy. Hydrangeas need:
Consistent moisture
Not bone-dry between watering
3. Hard Pruning or Dieback
It looks like it was either:
Cut back heavily, or
Died back from stress and is trying to regrow from the base
4. Possible Root Stress
Brick border + compact soil can trap heat and dry roots out faster.
Is it dead?
No — not fully.
I can see green growth near the base, which is a good sign. That means it can recover.
What to do (this will bring it back if it’s salvageable):
1. Cut it back
Trim all dead, brittle stems down to where you see green
Don’t be afraid to cut it low—it’ll regrow
2. Water deep (this is key)
Soak it 2–3 times per week
Let water go deep (not just surface)
3. Add mulch
2–3 inches around the base
Keeps roots cool and moist
4. Give it shade if possible
Even partial shade (afternoon especially) helps a lot
You can use shade cloth temporarily
5. Be patient
