Strange white spots

I'm wondering what are these white spots on my weeping fig? Is it normal?

@plantLadyoJxx It looks like mineral build up. Do you use tap water ?
@ILoveMyPlants
I do yes. I believe that I live in a soft water area, however I don't use water straight from the tap... I usually let it sit for a few days as I've heard this can reduce the amount of chlorine.
I know that on certain plants like your fig, it could be a white waxy substance to help regulate moisture, but that’s usually where the leaf blade meets the stem. It could be mealy bugs or powdery mildew. Take a q-tip with alcohol and gently rub a spot- it is turns brown and sticks to the a-tip it’s a mealy. Powdery mildew will wipe off with your finger. Is it on just 1 leaf, or more?
@plantLadyoJxx @ILoveMyPlants Deb is right! Mineral build up can do this. Do you know if your tap water has chlorine or chloramine? Letting tap water sit out will let the chlorine dissipate, however, if your municipality uses chloramine, then letting it sit out will do nothing, it doesn’t dissipate the same way. You can check your areas tap water report to find out what they use.

Even if it comes back with only chlorine, I would recommend watering with either distilled, rainwater or RO water for the next month or so, and then see if that changes anything. If the mineral build up lessens, you’ll have your answer!

Over fertilizing can also do this, just fyi.

I've noticed it on about 3 of the leafs. I did try to clean them and it didn't wipe off.
@plantLadyoJxx Unfortunately it’s not just chlorine it could be calcium salts and a few others I can’t think of off hand . I can tell you that they sell stuff on Amazon or local nurseries for that . It’s drops you put in your tap water to make it more efficient.
@DreamMachine
I'm not totally sure, but I will definitely do some research on my areas tap water.
Thank you all for the helpful advice ☺️
@plantLadyoJxx of course! If you remember , please tag me for updates, I would love to hear πŸ₯°
@plantLadyoJxx this is what I use for my tap water. https://a.co/d/0e8Leabw. I put my tap in jugs and give it a 1/4 cap- is really great.
@SillyPlantGirl
Thanks! I might try that 😊
