Looks like there’s still a lot of dead/infected tissue attached. For rerooting to work, you'll need to cut back until you find firm, healthy tissue that isn't brown or discolored. Any remaining rot can continue spreading, even after letting it callous over. Be sure to use a sharp, sterilized knife to make the cuts.
@MaMaLuvsPlants Hi Marsha- is that an African Milk Plant? If so, I just stick the cut ends down into soil immediately, now allowing them to dry out first. It has always worked great for me😁🌺🌸
