Couple of things- the color reversion is likely due to not enough light, and that may account for some of the length as well. Prince of Orange are considered “self heading” meaning they should grow in a sort of bush rather than climb. I would consider chopping a propping, and giving it lots of light! I’m wondering about your leaves, too- they look a little wrinkly. How often are you watering and what kind of soil is it in? This is the shape a Prince of orange should grow in.
@SmoothHope66 totally fair question I’m not sure if you can see the thumbnail of this plant- its baby picture? It looks picture perfect Prince of Orange. Poor guardianship is to blame.
@MamaLinne thank you! Your plant is lovely I’ve been looking for examples. This one never went in any direction but up! I for sure will chop. I water according to this app’s direction and the soil is just a basic indoor potting soil, I’ve only repotted once since purchase. He gets tons of indirect light, southern exposure but I can move him even closer to the windows- we will find a new spot. Thank you for your advice!
@Sherrifk8 okay, thanks for the info! I would suggest a chop and repot and totally ignoring the app watering schedule. You’re very likely overwatering- no fault of your own- I wish the app explained this! Philos want to be in an amended soil mix, not straight potting mix. It’s likely staying too wet for too long. About half of mine are in 1/3s each of potting soil, perlite, and orchid bark. The other half are in Mollys aroid mix. I’m experimenting with which I like best and am leaning towards the Mollys. I pot everything in clear plastic nursery pots that are no bigger than 1-2” larger than the root ball. And with Philos, I don’t water until they are nearly dry- you can see this much easier in the clear nursery pot (that I then put in a decorative cache pot). When nearly dry, I completely soak them until water is running out of the drainage holes. This turns out to be about every 2-3 weeks in my environment/humidity. As far as the app goes, you can use the watering reminders to check on your plant. If it’s not more than halfway dry, “snooze” the notification and it will remind you to check again in a few days. Eventually, the app will learn (ish) your watering rhythm and become more accurate, however many of us have found that it glitches in that regard.
When you unpot, check for root rot (dark mushy and/or smelly) roots. Trim off with a sterilized knife. I have a feeling you might be dealing with a bit of it by the look of the leaves. Good luck and let me know how it goes!
