What are the small

#Crassula there are small growths at the top of a couple of high branches and trunk- are those roots? I’ve had this 2 years - I really like it.
Those definetly look like roots sprouting out. I would say it’s probably because it looks very etoilated. Definetly needing more sun.
Cool plant😊
Yes, the plant will send out roots like that in search of water when it's dehydrated. A few things from looking at your photo: first, it needs a bigger pot. It's very likely root bound in that tiny pot. Also, your plant card says it's in a pot without drainage, is that correct? All plants need a pot with drainage holes, they help the soil dry out faster between waterings and allows excess fertilizer and mineral buildup to flush out. Terracotta pots are best for jade plants because they're porous, which helps soil dry out faster.

In addition to a bigger pot, your jade also needs more light. At least 4-6 hours of direct sun in a west or south-facing window is ideal for these succulents. And always let the soil completely dry out between waterings. They're extremely drought tolerant and can go a very long time without water. I have several large potted ones in front of my house that I only water every few months.
@stephongreg this plant is 6” in from a southeast facing window. (No availabe west facing window) It is in the unglazed pot pot that it gifted to me in. I am pretty conscious about making sure I don’t overwater - I use a moisture meter for all my plants. I will look for another pot. So will those roots eventually grow to the soil or if in the larger pot will the mitigate those roots? Should the pot size be about 2” larger in diameter that current one? Thanks all for the information
@PaternalCashew I doubt they'll go all the way to the soil, although I have seen it on plant that are severely underwatered as a last-ditch effort of locating water. Because of those roots. Btw, I thought your plant might be underwatered, not overwatered. Considering how small the pot is, and that it's been in the same pot with the same soil for over two years, it's likely depleted of nutrients and there's also a good chance it's become hydrophobic. When that happens, even proper watering can lead to an underwatered plant because the soil no longer holds water long enough for the roots to absorb it.

Normally the guideline for upsizing a pot is that the new one shouldn't be more than 2-3" larger than the current one, but in this case you could probably go up to an 8" pot as long as it's terracotta. When you pull this one out, make sure to shake off as much of the old soil from the roots as possible. It might be fairly root bound, so if you find roots circling around and around, you'll need to cut through them before putting it in the new pot. If you don't, the roots will keep growing like that and it will become root bound again much faster.
I have a jade its so pretty
