Christmas Cactus help

My Christmas cactus has been looking withered recently. I took her out of the window to repot tonight and she fell out of the pot without her roots. I don’t water her super often but when I do I drown her. This method has worked for several years but I suppose it’s led to root rotπŸ₯² is there any saving her from this barely root bearing nub?? I do intend to pinch off some cuttings but I’d like to save all of her if I can. She’s a few years old now. Don’t go by my Greg last watering I always forget to update !! She was watered a few days ago & is normally watered every 2 weeks ish. #TrueChristmasCactus #ChristmasCactus #help #advice #christmascactuslove

@Hermit when you watered two days ago was the soil still wet? Did the WHOLE plant detach from its roots? How do the lower stems feel, the ones coming from the soil? If they’re mushy at all, you will have to trim those away. Luckily Christmas cactus propagates pretty easily!
@DreamMachine the soil wasn’t wet! I put my finger in the pot before watering every time as I normally can’t remember when I did it lastπŸ˜… The stem isn’t mushy at all!! It’s hardened on the bottom (tree like) almost feels like my jade plant. I know this β€œtree like” part is a normal thing developed by the plant to keep itself from flopping over but I’m insure if this hard bit will grow roots. Yes the whole plant detached from the rootsπŸ₯² I’ve since put her in a small terracotta pot with perlite & cactus soil. Unsure if this is a great move but I had to do something for the mean time
