Too much sunlight or over watering?

#ParlourPalm please help!
One of the stems on my parlour palm is drying up and broken like it's scorched. I also get this white stuff on top of the soil, I thought it might be mold so i tried removing it and then putting some cinnamon on top of the soil but it seems to be growing back

@agojiemilaje If you are getting white stuff on the top of the soil, it could well be mold as a result of overwatering. These plants prefer indirect or filtered rather than direct light. It may also benefit from some humidity.
To avoid overwatering, it is important there is good drainage and you can check the soil moisture with a finger or skewer in the top inch or so of soil.
Here’s a useful guide:

Thanks @Seymour I have done all this and moved the plant a few feet away. The pot has good drainage but water seems to remain in the soil and condensation forms around the bottom of the pot. Compared to my other plants, this certainly seems to retain water a lot more and soil is soggy
