How do you determine when to water your othonna capensis?
Its soil has been dry for a few days, but I donโt see any wrinkles on the leaves like Iโve seen in the past. Howeverโ the new โbeadsโ coming in appear stunted and small compared to the older โbeadsโ and I thought it could mean they wanted more water. ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ #RubyNecklace #StringOfRubies #terracottapots

Hi!
Such a beautiful and fun plant.
As long as, like you said, thereโs no wrinkles or dying stems, your plant will be just fine. You should absolutely let your ruby dry out before watering again and as Greg Iโm sure has updated you, it only needs water on average once every 1.5-2 weeks.
If your plant is getting direct light from its grow light, then maybe it could benefit from a small spritz of water IF the soil is dried out only a few days after the last watering.
So if greg says youโre fine, your plant is without wrinkles and sadness, and itโs continuing to grow worthy, your rubies will be fine!!!

@leafnuttt Thank you for your responseโ that gives me some peace of mind! I have another question for you: is it normal for new-ish growth to be as thin as it is in the top left corner of my photo? I hope they will fatten up but if I donโt water it enough I fear they will stay thin.
To be honest, your growth looked larger than any rubies I have seen in my day. The thinner new growth is more of what Iโm used to. Any growth is good growth in my mind, especially for a pretty mild plant to care for. If you genuinely have a concern with the growth spurts youโre seeing, try a new spot inside with good indirect sunlight rather than the grow light it says youโre using. This could help your plant grow at least a little more consistently but truly, keep at it, stay confident, and keep love in your heart when you care for it and your rubies will be fine I promise!!!
