I think itβs dead
#RavenZzPlant I can see where the stem is a different color. Do I need to chop it below the brown?
2ft to light, indirect
6β pot with drainage
Last watered 1 month ago
No @TheMightyOddish Was that your new leaf? I believe itβs hardening off and turning to the adult color.
@TheMightyOddish are they fading or are those new leaves? The new leaves on a ZZ are lighter in color and darken as they age. You might also find a very sunny spot for it and give it some TLC there for a while. Sometimes if I want to give my plants a boost, Iβll upgrade them to the best window in the house for month as a little spa vacation. π
@DreamMachine what do you think ? Iβm thinking light and or nutrient deficiency? @TheMightyOddish if you hit reply and tag us in your answers, it will notify us. Otherwise itβs just chance if we see it or not! π₯°
@MamaLinne @TheMightyOddish Iβm going to need a bit more information. Staci, can you describe your care routine for your ZZ? What kind of light is it in? Does it have a grow light or is it in natural light? How far away from the light source is it? How do you decide when itβs time to water, and how much do you water?
When I zoom in on the leaf I do see some slight wrinkles, which makes me think it could be underwatered. Is your soil wet or dry or damp right now? Just so you know, for a ZZ plant the entire βbranchβ with multiple tiny leaflets is the actual leaf. So this is one leaf becoming discolored.
Thanks for the tag Deb π«ΆπΌ I did not know there were more comments here! When you comment Staci, could you please reply to either of us or make sure to include β @MamaLinne @DreamMachine β in your comment so we get notified? We wonβt get notifications on your own post unless you include our name/tags.

@DreamMachine @MamaLinne Thank you for the help and detailed answers! I water when bone dry. This particular one has been moved around a lot lately. More sun, less sun, low humidity and dry spot to recently in the bathroom with higher humidity. I may or may not have fertilized with a 1-1-1 water mix recently. Itβs been exposed to cold by a window and is a fairly boring do nothing plant. Itβs mostly the last photo that confuses me. Does not appear to be a healthy brown
@TheMightyOddish @MamaLinne ZZ plants have gotten a sad reputation for being βlow light plants.β π’ They donβt βthriveβ in low light and low water, they merely tolerate it in a more graceful way than other plants. If itβs in low light and water then it will merely be a beautiful statue. If you were to put your ZZ in a high light situation (they are native to the African grasslands) they CAN go through water π¦ like nobodyβs business AND grow like crazy. If itβs not doing anything, that means itβs not getting its needs met. If it is repeatedly made to go through long periods with dry soil, that can make growth slow way down. (And itβs quite annoying because thatβs what almost anyone would tell you what you should do. So much misinformation out there π)
@MamaLinne @TheMightyOddish argh!! Greg isnβt letting me post my recommendations for what I think you should do. Hang tight, I will try to post!
@TheMightyOddish @MamaLinne I had to write my comment in my notes app and then screenshot!
