Corn plant leaves going brown

I recently got a corn plant and the smallest bunch of leaves at the bottom started going brown and I pulled it off, see picture.

What has caused this as I can see some small pieces starting to go on the bigger part of the plant.

It’s so bizarre to me that it’s not the tips that are going brown, and this is all I find online when I search my is my corn plant turning brown
Could be too much water and potentially root rot causing it to brown
When browning starts from the stem and base of the leaf it’s usually root rot. Pull the plant out of the dirt and check the roots. Cut the plant just above the rot and replant. Wait to water for a few days to let the plant dry. Make sure you put your plant in a pot with a drainage hole and water when the soils is completely dry to prevent rot.
