Hi Lisa,

I’ve only done a small amount of research on carnivorous plants. But from what I’ve learned, pitcher plants aren’t supposed to close, say like a Venus fly trap does. They actually start with their β€œlid” closed, and it opens and stays open as it matures.

Their pitfall traps filled with liquid are designed for insects to fall inside. So the β€œlid” should never close as it should have constant access to insects.

Your pitcher could be drying out, going from age, or reacting to stress.

Have you moved its location? Changed lighting?
Pitchers are only closed during their development. When the lid opens it’s ready for business.
