Just got these guys today! Was told they were watered on Thursday. They seem pretty dry. Is that ok? The wandering Jew seems a little angry. Iβm also wondering about the soil on the string of hearts. I know it needs well draining soil, but it seems thereβs less soil than perlite. Also, the roots are pretty much exposed at the top. I feel like it shouldnβt be like that, but Iβm not totally sure. Any help is appreciated! TIA #planthelp #needadvice soilMix">#soilMix #WanderingJew #StringOfHearts
Yes they need a well draining soil, there is more perlite because it needs a chunkier soil mix. Also I only bottom water my SOH rather than overhead watering. And only water it when completely dry. I also use this method to know when I need to water: if your hearts can fold like a taco/ or have give to them instead of being firm, then it needs water. If they donβt fold and are firm, it doesnβt need water. They can be overwatered easily so be mindful! Also they need bright indirect sun. I keep mine on my screened in porch outside facing south. And itβs thrived there! Itβs almost 5 feet long!
I would recommend moving it into a terracotta pot when you get a chance, because with a glazed pot it wonβt dry out quick enough. They donβt have βrootsβ they have corms/or bulb like root structures that have roots attatched, but the bulbs will rot if they are kept wet for too long which result in the plant dying. They can be very temperamental. Also not to much light either (no direct sunlight) it will burn the delicate leaves. It prefers filtered light, but a good amount of it.
